Just like the Archangel Raphael who appears and says that every choice has some consequence. The 6th Arcana has more than one name: Decision or the Lovers. This card has a dual representation which would like to tell us something about our most important decisions. This card can be either a boy who is facing two roads and hesitating between two women, or Adam and Eve in Paradise where their decision resulted in being banned from Paradise.
But let us say a few words about the ‘Paradise’ version. Adam, the symbol of consciousness, looks at Eve, who represents the unconscious. The card indicates that if we look for the answers in our unconscious, we will face difficulties. Eve is watching the angel, who represents our superior selves and who can help us get rid of bad old habits. The old habits that prevent us from being able to change our lives.
The naked man and woman prove their willpower because they are able to stand naked and not be ashamed about it. The mountain at the background shows that we can achieve the greatest things, that we can be the best and we can achieve the maximum result possible. The twelve leaved tree behind Adam represents the twelve conscious states of a human being. In this particular card the snake symbolises that we are able to distinguish right from wrong and to see the differences between them.
This awakening is a continuous process and it will run until we are able to learn from our mistakes. Thus, the card of the Lovers warns us to be careful and conscious regarding our decisions made in a dangerous situation. If we become more conscious, we will be able to take responsibility for our decisions. This card therefore suggests that making a decision is not an easy job and we should not rush, because making a decision involves more than you might think at first glance.
