Dreams and dreaming

The conscious level of our psyche is manifested in the fact that every day we decide things and commit acts. At night our body turns to the stage of unconscious activity.

In this article I will talk about dreams and dreaming, the interpretation of dreams, and the meaning of dreams. Throughout history, people have tried to understand what it is to dream and what dreams mean. Some people perceived dreams as a second alternative reality, others as the hidden thoughts of man. Nowadays we can hear a lot of different myths about our dreams, but many people do not even know what dream is, or why we dream about certain things and whether dreams mean something. Let us try to understand these things together.

Every person has conscious and unconscious mental activity. The conscious level of our psyche is manifested in the fact that every day we decide things and commit acts. At night our body turns to the stage of unconscious activity. Indeed, during sleep, we do not have awareness of our actions, we do not remember them. That is why dreams tend to be forgotten so quickly.

Dreams and dreamingSo what is a dream and what is it for? Every day the cells of our brain have to actively work to expend their energy. By evening, their ability to respond fully to external stimuli has reduced a lot. First, a man has a feeling of fatigue and, consequently, he falls asleep - at this time our cerebral cortex inhibits. After sleeping, by the morning, the function of nerve cells of the brain is fully restored, and they are ready to begin active work again. Sleeping is as important as food. After all, a human can live without a food for about two months, but without sleep - about two weeks, no more.

There are two types of sleep: slow and fast. During the slow sleep respiratory rate and heart rate decreases, muscles relax and the ranges of movements of the person reduce. In this period of sleep, a person cannot see dreams.

If a person is in a stage of fast sleep, known also as REM (Rapid Eyes Movement), his breathing quickens, his body moves more, especially his eyeballs. During this kind of sleep a person sleeps deeper than at the stage of slow sleep. It is scientifically proven that if one doesn’t get his REM sleep, one can get nervous or mental disorders, even if one gets a necessary amount of slow sleep.

Modern scientists have established the fact that, at a time when a person is in a state of REM sleep, his brain does not cease to function actively. His brain is busy collecting and analyzing information received during the day. He does it in order to be able to use this information in the waking state. At this time we process received facts and in the morning we wake up with the made up decision, even though yesterday it seemed that the situation was hopeless. Not for nothing people say that if you have a problem, you should sleep on it.

In today's world people's opinion about dreams are divided. Indeed, some believe that dreams predict the future, while others think it's nonsense and do not want to believe in that. So should we believe in the veracity of dreams or not?

Our unconscious feelings, emotions and desires are places in unconscious level of our mind. Sometimes it happens that they make their way out onto the surface to our consciousness in a dream in the form of different images. But not everyone can understand what they mean. Dreaming – is a straight connection between our conscious and subconscious.

Psychoanalysts dealing with the interpretation of dreams for the treatment of their patients are developing notes with dreams’ explanations. Only working together with the patient it’s possible to clarify individual associations that evoke images of a patient from his sleep. During this interpretation, the analyst translates thoughts into visual images, and its mysterious content - in an explicit form. This is done in order to combine all the images in one scenario, after which you can begin interpreting the dream. This interpretation of dreams tends to show the state of the human soul, which is hidden even from the patient himself. It reveals a message from his subconscious to his consciousness.

The meaning of some images in our dreams we can explain ourselves, with the commonly known explanation of symbols. Therefore, let’s try to interpret some of our dreams. If you dream that someone is aggressive to you, it shows your own aggressiveness that you hide inside yourself towards that person and you can not throw it out in the reality.

You see a dream in which you are not prepared for the exam. This dream is a signal that you are concerned about how you look in the eyes of the people around you.

We often dream that someone is stalking us. In this case, you must first understand who or what is stalking you. Maybe this dream will mean something not so terrible. This dream usually means that the subconscious is trying to establish contact with the conscious part of personality. And for some reason our mind does not want that.

Sometimes a man can dream with his own death or the death of someone else. This death is very rarely has a direct connection with the death in real life. Usually death or murder in a dream shows that a person is experiencing a deep inner transformation.

Psychic activity of a person is reflected in dreams in the form of houses or individual rooms. If you subconsciously want an internal change, you may dream with a kitchen, if you want to get rid of anything – you may dream with bathroom. Obviousness of everything is clearly visible, if action is taking place in a familiar place, like your home.

A car that you dream with is a symbol of your personality. If you dream that you are driving a car yourself, it means that you are taking an active role in one or another situation. And, if you sit in the back seat of a car, it indicates the opposite of you role in the given issue.

We can dream with snakes in different concepts, they usually represent wisdom, healing, poison and danger. These dreams can be interpret in a different ways, because each person has his own attitude towards these creatures, and hence his own association.

In this article I talked about dreams and dreaming, that it’s possible to interpret dreams with the help of psychoanalyst or even by yourself. In general, I wrote only about a small portion of symbols and images that we encounter in our dreams. In the books with dreams’ interpretations we can find many interpretations and meanings, which sometimes confuse us. If you are really concerned about the meaning of your dreams, it's better to ask for a help from professional psychoanalyst.
