The Star – the hope of light rays that shines at the end of a dark tunnel. The seventeenth card of the tarot responds to the previous card (The Tower) and responds to the situation generated by the Tower. It represents a kind of quiet time after the storm.

Many years ago people built towers for their own protection and to have better visibility so as to see when their enemies may be coming to attack them. But this tarot card shows a dramatic scene. The thunderbolt has struck the Tower and it is just about to collapse. Two people are falling from the burning building upside down.
This card depicts the Devil – with evil eyes, enormous goat horns and a hairy body – as he has lived in our imaginations for centuries. The figure stands on an altar, with a torch in his hand, but pointing downwards - thus indicating what it’s like when faced with the Devil.
This card shows an angel who holds two bowls in his/her hands, and pours water from one bowl to the other. The rational and the irrational is in equilibrium in the symbol of Aquarius.
The end, Death, is integral part of our life like birth and beginnings. The Reaper is the ancient symbol of death. He is scything everything dead in the field of life in order to clear the way to the future for the newborn.
The Hanged Man hangs by his right leg. He bears his fate peacefully and with patience. He has chosen the path of self-sacrifice (a voluntary victim) – but there is more to gain than to lose.
Justice is one of the four virtues that include such elements as Temperance and Strength. Justice holds a sword in his right hand and a two beam scale in his left hand, because the intuition that is symbolised by the sword dominates over the intellectual decisions symbolised by the scales.
When life puts us in unexpected situations, we often ask the question whether all these events are the result of fate or have happened accidentally?
Those who can find peace inside have already arrived home. This is the concise meaning of card no. IX. The Hermit. Let’s look more closely at a fuller meaning of this card.
The teacher of Strength is Life itself, therefore anybody who is seeking for the infinite law of life will reach their goal. If we turn the sign for infinity upright we will see the number 8. This is the number of Strength.
